Description
Blagdon Ceramic Biological Filter Media from Blagdon
Blagdon Professional Ceramic Biological Filter Media 25 LitreBlagdon Professional Ceramic Biological Filter Media is excellent for pond filtration systems supporting high fish stocking densities. It has been specifically designed to provide a chemically inert, high surface area media with extreme porosity.
Blagdon Ceramic Biological Filter Media is also ideal for feeding regimes that are maximised for fish growth.Biological filter media is used within pond filter systems to provide a surface area that bacteria can live on.These bacteria feed off the waste toxic chemicals produced by fish ammonia and nitrite and quickly turn them into relatively harmless nitrates.
There are two main parameters that indicate a media’s effectiveness in supporting the beneficial bacterial colonies within the restricted space of a pond filter system.
Surface Area to Volume:The total surface area this is effectively the size of the home available for bacteria to live and grow. The larger this area the better.
Pond filters have a limited space dedicated to Biological media, the more surface area the biological media can provide within this space, the greater the fish population the filter will healthily maintain.
Blagdon Bio Media uses the advantageous properties of kiln fired ceramic to maximise the surface within your filtration system.
Oxygen Flow Through The Media:
Bacteria are living organisms; the species that do the work of keeping pond water healthy require water and oxygen levels similar to the fish in the pond. Up to one third of the oxygen used in a pond can be consumed by filtration bacteria.
The space inside a porous filter media that creates a high surface therefore must be supplied with a flow of water and oxygen in order for them to support bacterial colonies on their surfaces.
Size/Pack Size: 25 Litres. The flow of water is allowed if the spaces are large enough and interconnected within the media giving it good porosity.
Blagdon Ceramic Biological Filter Media has been specifically designed to maximise these oxygen rich interconnected void space.
