A compact evergreen shrub of upright growth to 3m tall, with long, spiny, pinnate dark green leaves.
Flowers small, bright yellow, fragrant, in densely clustered arching racemes, followed by blue-black berries.

Mahonia are evergreen shrubs with leathery, pinnate leaves which are often spine-toothed, and clustered racemes of sometimes fragrant yellow flowers, sometimes followed by black or purple berries.
