The stainless blade seems to remove a full 65mm width strip of algae from the glass with a single pass, whereas other blades seem to miss patches & start to deteriorate after a few uses. -

This powdered material mixes easily with water to produce an acid solution that will remove thick hardened on calcium deposits which solutions like vinegar would not touch.
